Study Aids and Strategies Assessors (sometimes referred to as "DSA Needs Assessors") help disabled students identify strategies they can use to participate in higher education.

Assessors provide advice to disabled students on specialist equipment, personal study-related assistance or other strategies they can use while studying.

They provide advice to funding bodies (including Local Authorities) so they can make informed decisions on when and how the Disabled Students Allowances can cover the costs of these strategies.

They work with higher education institutions to help identify reasonable adjustments they can make to enable students to participate in their courses.

The Association of Study Aids and Study Strategies Assessors aims to help Assessors fullfil these roles in the following ways:

  • By providing an informal means of communication between assessors that encourages discussion, reflection on practice and sharing of knowledge.

  • By providing advice and training to help members meet professional, legal and quality assurance standards relevant to their work.

  • By working with government and other relevant organisations to improve access to higher education for disabled students.

Membership is free and open to anyone whose primary work role is related to DSA e.g. DSA Assessors, IT Trainers, Study Skills Practitioners and Diagnosticians
